Leona Maguire added to her impressive Solheim Cup record as she claimed a point alongside Esther Henseleit in the morning foursomes as Team Europe ended the session level with USA at 2-2 in Bernardus Golf, Holland.

Maguire and Henseleit were 2UP winners over Andrea Lee and Lindy Duncan in the third foursomes tie which was enough to level the session heading into the afternoon fourballs.

It was a rescue mission from Anna Nordqvist’s side who were up against things at 0-2 following heavy defeats for Charley Hull / Lottie Woad and Nanna Koerstz Madsen / Celine Boutier in the top two matches. Swedish pair Maja Stark and Linn Grant put the first blue score on the board with a 3&2 win over Rose Zhang and Jennifer Kupcho.

Maguire’s victory moves her record to 9-3-1 giving her a winning margin of 73.1% which is a record for the Solheim Cup.

“I have been very fortunate to have great partners. A lot of the points have come from foursomes and fourballs matches,” said the Cavan star.

Maguire and Henseleit carried a huge crowd with them across the morning and the Irishwoman feels that was worth an extra couple of winning holes.

“We had incredible support with a lot of Irish flags, German flags. They were really spurring us on, especially when the weather got bad.

“That was the extra little bit we needed. The crowd was amazing this morning with a few new chants we haven’t heard before.

“Hopefully the crowds will be even bigger this afternoon.”

Maguire will sit out the afternoon fourballs as will Henseleit with Hull and Woad set to lead out the Europeans despite their hammering.
