Lucas Glover posted another bogey free round at TPC Deere Run in Friday’s second round of the John Deere Classic as he now leads the pack by two strokes heading into Saturday’s third round.
Starting on the back nine, Glover did most of his scoring in his first nine holes. The 46-year-old started off by making two birdies at the 10th and 11th.
Another birdie came at the 14th before making his second pairing of birdies at the 16th and 17th. Heading back to the clubhouse, Glover made one more at the par-5 second hole as he posted a six-under-par 65 to lead with a score of 14-under.
Glover has had a three year exemption since winning back-to-back tournaments in 2023 and that exemption is due to expire this year but winning isn’t on his mind – Glover just wants to play good golf.
“I’m too old to chase that stuff, to be fair,” Glover said. “I just want to play. I just wanted to play well again, and I’ve struggled. Having two days like this just gives me a little belief that it’s in there, you know? Been working hard at it and hadn’t seen many results and have for two days. Doesn’t mean anything tomorrow. Doesn’t mean anything Sunday.
“But for these first two days my work has been paying off,” he said. “I got a couple more days to keep fighting and keep doing it.”
Lee Hodges hold second place at 12-under as the 31-year-old posted a five-under-par 66, making eighth feet of par putts to stay in range.
“I putted super, super well. Probably the best single day of putting I’ve had on tour. t bailed me out a couple of times. Honestly, I didn’t drive it my best today, put it in some squirrely spots, but it got bailed out with the putter. So it was nice to do that,” said Hodges.
Zac Blair sits just one behind Hodges at 11-under. Blair was tied for the lead after 18-holes but couldn’t get the ball to drop on Friday.
“Yeah, a little not quite as clean as yesterday. Kind of grinded it out, but was happy with doing that instead of kind of going the other way,” said Blair.
Six players sit tied for fourth place at 10-under. David Lipsky and Ryo Hisatsune posted 65’s to climb 17 places to T4.
Jordan Spieth just squeezed into the three-under-par cutline as he sits on the cusp after posting a two-under-par second round. Spieth was outside the cutline by three strokes when he began the back nine.
