Ballymena’s very own Cameron Clark is thrilled to be able to tee it up on home soil at the NI Legends at Galgorm Castle this September.

Although he has been away from home for 48 years and he may have lost that Ballymena twang! He is buzzing to be able to enjoy the tournament with family and friends from September 4-6 this year and YOU CAN REGISTER YOUR INTEREST IN TICKETS HERE.

“It’s really nice to come back here, I was born in Ballymena and left when I was four years old so it’s been 48 years away, I have been back the odd time I have family over here but it’s been a long time gone,” said Clark who had a stint on the European Tour in the 90s.

“I was born at the Cottage Hospital here and my dad was Head Pro at Ballymena golf club, so it’s wonderful to be back home.”

Clark earned his Legends Tour card at Q-School last winter and he was eagerly awaiting the calendar being published so he could punch his ticket to the NI Legends and enjoy all of the home comforts that come with it.

“The family and friends will be here so we will try and make a holiday of that week and spend time with them, so I am really looking forward to the event. It was the first event I put in the calendar for this year when I earned my card at Q-School.”

Clark’s Legends Tour career is in its infancy, and he has only played two events on the over-50s circuit at the time of writing, but he is itching to sink his teeth into a full summer of golf.

“It’s been a fantastic experience so far and I am really looking forward to getting in some regular golf. I haven’t played to my ability yet but there is still lots of the season to go so hopefully I can get into some form.”

The Ballymena accent has been replaced by a strong English voice and Clark will need to get to grips with Galgorm Castle.

“I don’t know the place at all. Let’s see what happens in September it will be my first time playing the course it looks like a beautiful set up, I have stayed in the hotel which was just awesome so it’s going to be a great week.”

Clark was part of the launch of the NI Legends alongside fellow professionals Gary Murphy and Lough Erne’s Damian Mooney.

Murphy added: “I’m a big fan of Galgorm. My first experience here was with a microphone commentating and I thought the course looked pretty easy. And then when I got the clubs out, I realised it wasn’t. It’s a really good test of golf and last year, even though the weather was so inclement, the course held up extremely well. It tests all parts of your game and really looking forward to the challenge again this year.”

Mooney who combines his PGA in Ireland schedule with appearances on the Legends Tour feels the golf course will be the real winner and provide a pulsating finish when the tournament is on.

“It’s a great venue for a tournament and spectators coming for free will be able to watch the feature holes and then the stadium finish. It’s a fabulous 18th hole, with the water protecting the left side of the green and a grandstand so people see plenty. There will be plenty of big names to enjoy watching, names that people recognise from the main Tour, so it’s going to be an exciting week in September for sure.”
