Next month the PGA in Ireland will host its annual seniors pro-am at Dundalk Golf Club on May 18. This is an event organised by the legendary Seamus McKibben, better known to all as Spider. This is one of the key fundraising events for the PGA as all proceeds from the pro-am go towards the PGA Benevolent Fund.

The event is for PGA Professionals over the age of 50, it will be a stableford competition for the professionals and a team competition for the amateurs with the hope being that 30 teams will be listed to start at €650 per entry. The professionals will also be competing for a tasty €10,000 prize fund.

“It’s for professional golfers over the age of 50. So it would be great to fill up to 30 teams with all proceeds going towards the benevolent fund. There will be a meal afterwards included in the day out so it would be great to see the support and interest there,” said McKibben.

“The benevolent fund is very important to the PGA.”

The Benevolent Fund is an initiative designed to ensure that members have support during periods of illness, injury, unemployment, or financial difficulty.  The Fund has played a vital role in the lives of countless professionals for over a century.

In its earliest days, the PGA reached out to golf clubs to explain the purpose of the Fund. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many clubs offering generous donations in support of the Association’s commitment to member welfare. Since then, the Benevolent Fund has remained a symbol of solidarity and care within the professional golfing community.

Some of the supports associated with the Benevolent Fund are listed below:

  • Bereavement
  • Illness and injury
  • Mental health support
  • Rehabilitation support
  • Business support
  • Family support
  • Addiction
  • Dealing with diagnosis

All team entries are to be made directly through Seamus McKibben. Seamus can be contacted on 0044 (0) 7793 811015.
