Three Irish went and three Irish can look forward to an extended stay in South Africa after Rob Brazill, Liam Grehan and Rowan Lester all came through the First Stage of Sunshine Tour Q-School.

The top-40 and ties all progressed to the Final Stage next week with Brazill and Grehan securing top-10 finishes while Lester secured a 14th place finish.

Brazill was the top Irishman after 72 holes on level-par after rounds of 74, 70, 71 and 73 saw him claim a share of sixth place just two shots off the eventual leading qualifiers Thomas Spreadborough and Pedro Cristovam.

Grehan of the K Club who had his golf clubs damaged on a Ryanair flight a few weeks ago recovered from an opening round of 76 with scores of 73, 73 and a crucial 67 for a one-over total.

Grehan came home in 32 thanks to four birdies on the back nine to take 8th place.

Rounds of 73, 69, 74 and 74 saw Lester comfortably through to the Final Stage also.
