Ardee made history as they were crowned All-Ireland champions in the Flogas Irish Mixed Foursomes before they doubled-up in the Whirlpool Mixed Four-Ball in Westmanstown.
Victoria Green and Damien Silo had put Greenacres in the ascendency when they claimed a 5&4 win in the Whirlpool decider. But crucially Noel Gaynor and Alison Gough wrapped up the first match on the 18th green, with a two-hole win.
Ardee were up in both of the other matches and it was Eddie Burke and Susan Boyle who sealed another green pennant, their second of the day.
“Unbelievable, an hour and a half ago it didn’t look good but they rallied around and suddenly we started getting red on the board and every five minutes it was looking better,” said Ardee captain Mannie McLoughlin.
“It’s just a dream come true. It’s a great achievement for the club and I’m proud of everybody. I’m proud of the club and I hope that we continue doing this, it’s just fantastic.
“It means an awful lot, it’s just unreal. Yesterday we were saying this would be a dream come true. We got into two finals and we were happy with that. When we won the first one, at that stage we were 3-1 down in the Four-Ball and it wasn’t looking like we were going to bring home two.
“Then the Gods just shone on us and it’s just an unbelievable achievement to win two All-Irelands.”
Last year’s beaten finalists had the perfect start to their day when they were too strong for Cushendall in the Flogas Irish Mixed Foursomes, with Caoimhin Coimin and Aoife Caffrey winning the first match, 5&4.
Thomas Pepper and Catherine Commins backed that win up with a 4&2 success and then Matthew Commins and Sharon Meehan sealed the title with a 3&2 win.
“Tremendous effort from all the team today, really hung tight when they had to, when the momentum wasn’t with us,” said on-course captain Brian Keenan.
“Thankfully we turned around some crucial holes, just got our noses in front. Delighted to come out on the right side of it after going so close last year.
“We learned (from last year) to double-down on our efforts and back ourselves. We knew that we have good players, we had practised hard all year, started back in April, and credit to Kevin and Karen, who really did all the leadership behind the scenes.
“We had some tough battles along the way and were determined to go one better than last year.”
