Kennedy becomes Ireland’s highest ranked amateur

Max Kennedy has reached a career high 56th in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking.

The Royal Dublin star is also Ireland’s highest ranked amateur having moved up 18 places to overtake Matthew McClean.

Kennedy has enjoyed a strong start to 2024, winning at last week’s General Hackler Championship to earn a PGA Tour start while he also has two further top-7 finishes on the collegiate scene.

It carries on from a glittering twelve months for the Louisville student who now has two collegiate wins seven top-10 finishes and he won the Ulster Men’s Strokeplay.

Kennedy narrowly missed out on the 36-hole shootout at last year’s LIV Golf qualifier.

The Irish international who made his senior debut last year, is also up eleven spots to 28th in the PGA TOUR University rankings with the top-20 earning status on the Canadian Tour and Korn Ferry Tour at the end of May.

At present, Ireland are performing well on the amateur stage with two players inside the top-63 in the men’s rankings while Liam Nolan (126th), Caolan Rafferty (219th) and Paul Conroy (272nd) make up the top five Irish ranked players.

On the women’s side Beth Coulter continues tolled the way in 67th, up three places while Sara Byrne has risen eight spots to 83rd as she continues to stand out for Miami.

Aine Donegan completes the top-100 in 92nd place while Anna Foster is up one to 124th.
