Tiger Woods will return to competition on Monday when he joins one of the best fields on the year in teeing-up in the annual Seminole Player-Member outing at the ultra-exclusive Florida club.

Seminole is about a 30-minute drive from Woods’ equally ultra-private Hobe Sound abode and he’ll be joined by a real who’s who from both the professional playing ranks and those who administer the game,

Some of the star players also include the Irish duo of Rory McIlroy and Padraig Harrington along with fellow major champions in Ernie Els, Justin Thomas, Danny Willett, Matt Fitzpatrick, Lucas Glover, Collin Morikawa and Luke Donald.

Also in the Seminole field is Rickie Fowler, ex-LIV Bernd Wiesberger, J B Holmes, Kevin Streelman, Chris Kirk, Ryan Palmer, Ben Griffin, recent Farmers Insurance Open winner Matthieu Pavon, women’s World No. 2 Nellie Korda and top-Scot Robert MacIntyre.

Joining Woods’ four-ball will be PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh along with ‘JT’ and Mike Walrath, CEO and Chair of the Board at a firm called Yext that boasts being the leading digital presence platform for multi-location brands, powering the knowledge behind every customer engagement.

McIlroy will again play alongside his father Gerry, who is a Seminole member, and in a fourball with Harrington and Ed Herlihy, a chairman of the PGA Tour.

McIlroy spoke of his joy in playing Seminole some four years ago in an article I wrote for Irish Golfer Magazine.  Click on: https://irishgolfer.ie/latest-golf-news/tour-news/2020/05/17/mcilroy-believes-sunday-at-seminole-can-showcase-all-that-is-good-in-golf/

It’s good news that Woods is in the field and returning to competition since his shock withdrawal after just seven holes due to sickness on day two of last month’s Genesis Invitational he was hosting.

Of note in looking through the list of 180-players hitting off from two tees both from 7.30am and 11.50am is there is no LIV player in the outing, and this for a second year running, though this comes as little surprise given the LIV players are currently in Saudi Arabia.

Surprisingly, now local Bears Club resident Shane Lowry is not in the field.

Ron – Poorly written and illogical opinion piece. Suggest you stick to cleaning clubs at the caddy shack. The PGA tour is doing quite well with both types of events. Players who switched to LIV will be footnotes in the golf history books. No one over in the US talks about Michelson anymore. Jon Rahm on occasionally. The others? We’ve forgotten their names. Oh wait there used to be a guy named Sergio I think but he acknowledged he was at the end of his career and needed the cash. Sad to see Irish Golfer publishing this piece.
