Castlerock star Annabel Wilson marched into the quarter-finals of the Women’s Spanish Amateur in Malaga after a convincing 4&3 win over Natalie Armbruester of Switzerland.

Wilson has been in fine form all week, winning her last-64 and last-32 matches comfortably while also finishing second in 36-hole qualifying.

The former Curtis Cup star won comfortably in the morning last-32, beating Cecile Leth-Nissen 3&2 to advance to the last-16 and she will tee it up in Saturday’s quarter-final as the last remaining Irishwoman.

Kanturk’s Mairead Martin may well have joined her had she not been forced to retire from the championship at the last-16 stage having fought so gallantly from 2DN with five to play to win her last-32 tie on the 19th.

Jessica Ross bowed out at the last-32 stage bringing a fine championship to an end.

Meanwhile in the Men’s Spanish Amateur, the second round was finally completed with Roganstown starlet Sean Keeling the best of the Irish in a share of fifth place on two-under.

Keeling carded a three-under 69 to move to within five of leaders lars Van Der Vight, Will Hopkins and home favourite Luis Masaveu Roncal.

Hugh Foley of Royal Dublin and Rosapenna’s Ryan Griffin are perched inside the top-20 on two-under while Rob Brazill and David Shiel made the cut at their ease at four-over and five-over respectively.

Both Paul Coughlan and Donnacha Cleary missed the seven-over cut.
