Annabel Wilson, Jessica Ross and Mairead Martin are all through to the last-32 of the Women’s Spanish Amateur Championship in Malaga.

Lurgan’s Wilson was the leading qualifier through 36 holes, finishing in 2nd place and she continued that momentum with a 3&2 win over Italy’s Matilde Partele to march into the next round.

Clandeboye’s Ross put on a rousing comeback to come from 2DN through 14 holes to win on the 19th hole while Kanturk’s Martin put on a strong back nine to turn around a 2DN deficit after 11 holes to edge to a 2&1 win.

Kate Lanigan of the Hermitage Golf Club was Ireland’s fourth participant in the knockout stages but she bowed out in the last-64 bracket.

Meanwhile the Men’s Spanish Amateur in Club de Golf Alcanada has changed from 36-holes of qualifying with 64 progressing to matchplay to 72-holes of strokeplay after strong winds have wreaked havoc on the championship.

After three days of play Hugh Foley and Rob Brazill are best of the Irish on level-par through just one round while Sean Keeling is a shot further back also after 18 holes.

Through 36 holes are Ryan Griffin (+2), David Shiel (+5), Paul Coughlan and Donnacha Cleary.
