Robert Moran, the sole surviving Irish man in the third and final round of the Alps Tour’s Elin Bay Open at Egypt’s Sokhna Golf Club, carded a closing one-under 71 to end the week tied for 21st in his maiden pro tour start.

The Dubliner shot matching two-under 70s in rounds one and two, and signed off with his third red-figured round to post -5 overall. A bogey and two birdies on the front nine were followed by two dropped shots early in the back nine as he began to tumble down the leaderboard, dropping money and ranking points with it.

But he staged a late rally, notching back-to-back birdies on the par-3 16th and par-5 17th to get back into red figures for the day and close out a week that he can take plenty of encouragement from.

At the sharp end of the leaderboard, Frenchman Aymeric Laussot shot a closing 67 to jump from third to first as 36-hole leader Manfredi Manica and Jacopo Vecchi Fossa who was in hot pursuit shot rounds of 73 and 75 respectively to drop out of contention.

It would be another Italian who’d come closest to Laussot as Edoardo R Lipparelli shot a 65 to finish just one back on -13 while Swiss man Luca Galliano had the round of the day and his 63 lifted him to solo third, one shot adrift of Lipparelli.
