Sara Byrne continued her excellent form during her final season of collegiate golf as she carded a final round of 68 to claim second place at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational
The tournament was reduced to 36 holes due to inclement weather at the Palm Aire Country Club – Champions Course and Miami finished 10th in the 15 team field.
Byrne, a Douglas native, carded a bogey-free round to finish on four-under It’s the ninth time in 2023-24 that she has shot sub-70.
The Irish Close winner has two wins, a fourth and a second in her last four starts.
Rebekah Gardner finished tied for 45th at 152 (+8).
Meanwhile, there was also silver for Aine Donegan at the Moon Golf Invitational.
The LSU student shared second place with her teammate and world number one amateur, Ingrid Lindblad.
Donegan carded three sub par rounds of 70, 69 and 71 in difficult weather conditions for her best finish this season.
Donegan and Lindblad spearheaded the LSU challenge which romped to a sixteen-shot victory in the team event.
“I’m especially proud of how Aine (Donegan) played, especially on Monday when it was cold, windy and rainy,” coach Runion said.
“That strong second round really carried us and put into a good position of being tied for the lead heading into the final round. To have four rounds under par today, three of them in the 60s and three finish in the top 10 with another just one stroke out of the top 10 shows how consistent, deep and capable we are when on form. We won’t always be on form, but we were (Tuesday) when it was needed.”
Katie Poots of UCF had her best collegiate finish in her freshman year with a final round of 69 to finish in sixth place while Anna Foster was T39 as Auburn took second place in the team leaderboard.
