Enniscorthy star Paul Conroy moved to within six shots of the lead at the halfway stage of the South American Amateur Championship in Colombia.

Despite bookending his second round with bogeys Conroy moved into a share of twelfth place on two-under-par.

The Chattanooga college golfer recovered from an opening bogey with three straight birdies before adding another birdie on the par-5 8th to cancel out a bogey on 7.

Annoyingly, he dropped shots at the par fives 10 and 18 but added birdie on holes 11, 14 and 17 to claw his way into the mix.

Ecuadorian golfer Felipe Garces leads by one shot on eight-under-par.

Luke O’Neill is on six-over after back-to-back rounds of 75 while Valerie Clancy and Anna Dawson are both inside the top-50 in the women’s section.

This event was good to Irish players last year with Galway’s Liam Nolan edging out Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy to win.
