Matt McClean was the best of the Irish in the third round of the Eisenhower Trophy as he jumped right into contention at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

A second straight round of 68 helped him move up nine places to -8 in the individual standings and T14, just four shots behind pace-setter Gordon Sargent (USA).

The Malone man’s heroics has also helped Ireland push on in the overall team leaderboard with Liam Nolan (Galway) up to level par after a third round, 70. He is ten places further up to T60.

Alex Maguire (Laytown & Bettystown) is on +2 following a 72 on Friday, with the Irish team up to T19 overall.
