Rob Moran was the biggest mover in the Bridgestone Order of Merit after his win in the AIG Irish Men’s Amateur Close at the weekend but David Shiel continues to lead the way.

The Castle golfer won with a birdie on the third play-off hole in Malone against Castleknock’s Quentin Carew, to seal a precious win and as a result he moved up 30 places in the rankings to the tenth.

Despite a pair of 75s to close out his week his Malone, Shiel (Enniscrone) finished 32nd and he remains at the top of the standings with his Home Internationals teammate Marc Boucher (Carton House) up to second place. Jack McDonnell (Forrest Little) is third with Carew jumping from T16 to fourth and his clubmate, Paul Coughlan, is down to fifth instead.

The women’s race remains unchanged with Emma Fleming (Elm Park) top, Kate Lanigan (Hermitage) is second and Anna Abom (Edmondstown) in third. Beth Coulter (Kirkistown Castle) is fourth and Aideen Walsh (Lahinch) is just behind her in fifth.

The next women’s Bridgestone Order of Merit event will take place this coming Sunday at Tandragee Golf Club for the Ulster O18 Women’s Amateur Open.
