Anna Dawson was the winner of the Leinster O18 Women’s Amateur Open Championship. The event was played at Bunclody Golf Club which saw 55 players compete over 18 holes of stroke play.
The Tramore golfer shot a round of +1 which put her tied at the top of the leaderboard alongside Mary Dowling (New Ross) and Co Louth’s Emily Murray. And a fantastic eagle on the last gave her the title after she beat Dowling on a count back.
The 20-year-old picked up her first women’s senior title this week after a dramatic finish.
“Well to be honest, I actually wasn’t really expecting it, it was a long putt I held on the last there for eagle so I’m obviously over the moon I’m delighted to win today,” said Dawson.
Bunclody provided the players with a great test while the wind picked up for the afternoon.
“I loved playing this course, I haven’t played it in a long time. I’ve never played the full 18 here I don’t think, I’ve played bits and pieces of the course. It’s a really nice course, the greens are really nice, and the fairways are so pure, its great out there,” said Dawson.
“I played a bit up and down, a few stupid holes out there but luckily, I brought it back and got the win.”
Lucy Carter was the winner of the Leinster O18 Women’s Amateur Open Championship Duggan Cup. She shot a score of +8 which put her nine shots clear of Lahinch’s Valerie Hassett. Suzanne Logan (Massereene) came in third place one shot further back on +18.
