Ahead of his trip to the Open, Alex Maguire was one of the winners on the final day of the European Amateur Team Championship in Royal Waterloo. Ireland’s emphatic 6-1 victory over England secured third place.
Ireland were in charge from the start when Caolan Rafferty and Matt McClean continued their outstanding week with a 2 holes win over Barclay Brown and Dylan Shaw-Radford. Mark Power and Liam Nolan were 3&1 winners against John Gough and Jack Bigham.
Maguire defeated Gough in the singles too, 3&2, before wins for Power and McClean were enough to end the week on a high in Belgium.

It took until the 20th hole but Jack Murphy secured a crucial point as the Ireland claimed the European Boys’ Team Championship Flight B thanks to a big 4-1 win over the Netherlands. The team of Aodhagon Brady and Mark Gazi were 3&2 winners in the foursomes, before Murphy, Sean Keeling and Fionn Dobbin all won their singles. Gavin Tiernan was the only player to come out on the wrong side of his match.

On the back of her recent selection for the Patsy Hankins Trophy, Beth Coulter was the only winner for Ireland against France in the Ladies’ Flight A. Coulter won 4&3 against Lois Lau and while Kate Lanigan also managed to secure a draw against Adela Cernousek, defeats for the team of Jessica Ross and Mairead Martin, along with Sara Byrne and Anna Foster in the singles, ensured Ireland fell to a 3.5-1.5 loss.

Kate Dillon won the decisive point for Ireland again today as they beat England 3-2 in their Girls’ Flight A playoff. Marina Joyce Moreno provided the momentum with her 6&5 win over Sophia Fullbrook and with the team of Emma Fleming and Anna Abom also winning their match it helped Ireland to a narrow victory.
