Roscommon’s Olivia Costello, Katie Poots (Knock) and Hannah Guerin (Royal Tara) share the lead after 36 holes of the Connacht Women’s and Girls’ Championship at Castle Dargan.
Guerin toped the leader board following the opening round, as she posted a 5-under par 69. Starting her second round with a bogey, she recovered well on the back 9 to finish 6-under for the event alongside her Girls’ International teammates.
Poots was 1-under after her first 18 holes but a superb 67 in the afternoon brought her right into the mix. Her 7-under second 18 included two eagles and four birdies.
The score of the day however was posted by Costello who carded a bogey-free, 9-under par, 65 in round two. The local hopeful will look to add to her Connacht U16 Girls Open title which she won in 2021.
Meanwhile, Jessica Reynolds (Co. Sligo) leads the Women’s and Girls’ Junior Championship. The event for players with a handicap index between 12.1 and 20.0, saw 32 players compete over 18 holes today, with the final 18 played alongside the Senior Championship on Thursday. Reynolds will take a 1-shot advantage over Lucy Grattan (Tralee) into Thursday..
