Daniel Brennan is just three shots off the lead after the opening round of The Bendac Championship on the EuroPro Tour.

England’s Pavan Sagoo and Ryan Brooks share the lead on six-under after they shot opening 65s at Cumberwell Park.

Brennan is in a share of tenth place after a first round 68 that included six birdies and three bogeys.

In a bunched leaderboard where the top-34 are separated by just four shots Dundalk’s Daniel Mulligan is a shot behind Brennan on two-under after a 69 while Stuart Grehan who progressed to Final Qualifying for the Open Championship is on one-under after a 70.

Conor Coyne and Luke Donnelly have work to do to make the cut from one-over as does Rhys Clarke on two-over while Ronan Mullarney is a shot further back after a 74.

Back towards the top of the leaderboard Sagoo carded back to back birdies to close out his round and tie Brooks at the top.

The Buckinghamshire native roared to five-under through eleven holes before he carded his first bogey of the day on 15.

EuroPro Tour regular Brooks who is still looking for his maiden title at this level had a rollercoaster opening round that included a pair of eagles and a double-bogey.

Threes at the par five ninth and eleventh helped him recover from a double on the second hole. The Whittington Heath man picked up seven shots in five holes around the turn to rocket up the leaderboard.

After a dropped shot on 15 he finished strong with two birdies in his last three holes.
