The Connacht Women’s & Girls’ Opens gets underway on Wednesday at Castle Dargan in Co. Sligo. The two-day event takes place over 54-holes with a Senior (h’cap <12) and Junior (h’cap 12.1 – 20.0) competition both taking place simultaneously.

Last year in Athlone, Ballykisteen’s Caitlin Shippam finished in T4, and after an excellent start to her season, the 17-year-old is looking for another good performance in the Championship after she reached the Last-16 at the AIG Irish Women’s Close earlier this month.

“I learned a lot in Grange. No matter the competition, there is always plenty to take from each event. I’m looking forward to testing myself in Sligo. I feel confident, and hopefully good things will come out of that. I’m aiming for a top-10 finish.”

Shippam won her maiden senior title at the Munster Women’s and Girls’ Open in Tralee earlier this year, and performances like that have seen her embedded in the top-ten of the Women’s Bridgestone Tour throughout the season.

“It was important to get the win early in the season, and it ticked off one of my goals for 2022 too. I’m now on WAGR too, so it was a brilliant confidence booster.”

With both Senior and Junior competitions taking place, Shippam will look to add another title to her CV in 2022, as Achill’s Julie Hassett returns to defend the Junior title she won last year.
