Joe Lyons is the 2022 Ulster Senior Men’s Open champion. In his first year as a senior, the Galway golfer won at Donegal GC. Lyons was the only player to finish under par in the two-day event, winning on -3.

Four birdies and a solitary bogey in his opening round laid the foundations for the win, and a level par 73 in his second round, ensured his maiden seniors title.

Castlerock’s David Mulholland finished in second place on level par, with Noel Crawford (Mourne) finishing a shot further back.

Recent Irish Senior Men’s Open champion Jody Fanagan shot the best round on day two, matching Lyons’ opening round of 70, to finish in a tie for fourth alongside Christopher O’Connor (Corrstown).

O’Connor won the Munster Senior Men’s Open earlier this year, as both he and Fanagan continued their impressive seasons.

Mullholland’s second place finish also saw him win the 55-59 category, with the 60-65 category shared between Portstewart’s Mark Windebank and Balbriggan’s David Brabazon.

Royal Portrush legend Garth McGimpsey won the 65+ category and finished in T18 on +10.
