Jody Fanagan will take a five-shot lead into the final round of the Irish Senior Men’s Amateur Open at Douglas Golf Club.

The Milltown golfer extended his lead from the first round, courtesy of a 73, to leave him on +4 with just 18 holes to play at the Cork venue.

Bogeys on two of his first three holes were quickly erased by birdies on the 8th and 9th to go to the turn in level par. Four further bogeys and a solitary birdie on 12 saw the former Walker Cup star sign for a +3 round of 73.

Douglas golfer and 2021 Irish Senior Men’s Close Champion Karl Bornemann leads the chasing pack on +9. The Ireland international added a second round 74 to his opening day 75 to be Fanagan’s nearest contender.

Norway’s Tore Cristoffer Sviland, England’s Colin Jones and Steve Graham (East Sussex) lie a shot further back on +10.
