Milltown’s Jody Fanagan leads the field at the Irish Senior Men’s Amateur Open at Douglas Golf Club.

The 1995 Walker Cup star fired a 1-over-par score of 71 on a day of tough scoring at the Cork course. Fanagan dropped a shot on his opening hole before birdies on the 7th and 8th saw him go under-par for his round. A double bogey on the 12th though would push him back towards the rest of the field, led by Steve Graham (East Sussex National Golf & Country Club) and Dave Kinneen (Galway Bay) one shot further back.

Local interest Karl Bornemann opened his Irish Men’s Senior Open bid with a 75 to leave him within reach of the lead. The Irish Senior Men’s International and 2021 Irish Senior Men’s Close Champion carded 5 bogeys in his round with no birdies to balance the damage.

The event takes place over 54 holes with the top 54 players and ties making the 36 hole cut following Thursday’s play.
