Foster drags Auburn into NCAA finals as Walsh’s Wake Forest ease through

Anna Foster was the hero for the Auburn Women’s Golf Team on Wednesday as she fired a superb five-under-par 67 to catapult her side into the top-4 of the Stillwater Regional and qualify for the NCAA finals.

On a personal note, Foster climbed nineteen places and into the top-10 as she finished on three-over for the week.

The Elm Park golfer recovered from a bogey on the second to post birdies on the sixth and seventh as she turned in 35.

The 20-year-old was sensational on the back nine, coming home in 32 after four birdies on the 12th, 14th, 17th and 18th to secure the fourth and final spot in the NCAA finals for Auburn University four shots ahead of Michigan State.

Foster’s 67 was the round of the day for her team.

Meanwhile in the Franklin Regional, Wake Forest eased into the NCAA finals in third place with Rachel Kuehn finishing runner-up in the individual competition.

Lauren Walsh had a difficult day, settling for a three-over 75 and a share of 36th place on seven-over-par.

The Castlewarden native wasn’t helped by a double-bogey seven and a triple-bogey eight on her front nine as she turned in 41 but Wlash put on a flawless back nine of seven successive pars before back-to-back birdies saw her finish with a flourish.

Mairead Martin shot a four-over 76 to end on that mark at the Albuquerque Regional as Louisville missed out on a place in the finals while Sara Byrne was unable to inspire Miami on the final day of the Tallahassee Regional.

The Cork native shot a three-over 75 after a difficult back nine. Byrne turned in 34 after three birdies and a bogey but carded three bogeys and a double on the 18th as Miami finished 5th, five shots outside the top-4.

Aine Donegan rounded off her season with a six-over 77 for a thirteen-over total and a share of 32nd place at the Ann Arbor Regional.
