Olivia Currie is the Ulster U18 Girls champion after defeating Sinead Ni Cheilleachair in the final in Portstewart on Thursday afternoon.

The Royal Portrush native produced a dominant display, running out a 4&3 winner against her Tullamore opponent and she will make the short journey home with the Fred Daly Trophy.

Both players played 36-holes on the day having progressed through their semi-final ties earlier that morning.

Currie eventually saw off the challenge of Foyle’s Hannah Lee-McNamara winning by a 2&1 margin to book her spot in the afternoon decider while Ni Cheilleachair took victory over Royal Tara’s Sophie Sharp as she cruised to a 4&3 win in the first last-four clash.

Unfortunately for Ni Cheilleachair the shoe was on the other foot as she suffered defeat by the same scoreline in the final.

In the consolation final Gemma McMeekin of Massereene defeated Royal Tara’s Niamh Carroll to win the McLeod Cup.

Both girls had progessed to the decider in the morning after McMeekin breezed to a 3&2 win over Charlie Maxwell of the Royal Curragh while Carroll ended any possibility of a Portrush double by seeing off Julia Currie 2&1.
