Olivia Mehaffey showed just why she carries such a lofty reputation into the world of professional golf after a barnstorming second round of eight-under par 64 at the Trust Golf Asian Mixed Cup in Thailand.
It’s been a stop-start beginning to Mehaffey’s career in the paid ranks since leaving an incredible legacy behind at Arizona State but the Tandragee woman’s talent has never been in question and it looks like Mehaffey’s amateur form is starting to translate to the pro circuit.
Friday was a superb example of Mehaffey’s scoring power; having started the day outside the top-100, she now sits in a tie for 12th at seven-under par, just four shots back of the lead.

Mehaffey was on the offensive at Siam Country Club and quickly found fifth gear. Starting from the tenth tee, she reeled off five birdies to storm to the turn in 31 before landing an unlikely eagle ‘2’ at the par-4 third, her 12th hole of the day.
Two more birdies followed at the fifth and sixth holes with Mehaffey reaching nine-under on the day with three holes left to play before sandwiching an eighth birdie of the round between two bogeys to sign for 64 and catapulting into contention ahead of an exciting weekend in Thailand.
Mehaffey has a best of tied-18th finish in her three events so far this season and has seen her performances improve with each passing week on the Ladies European Tour where she’ll look to go a few places better this weekend in Chonburi.
Mehaffey trails 14-year-old Thai amateur Ratchanon Chantananuwat by four strokes with the teen alongside Finland’s Sanna Nuutinen atop the board at 11-under par.
