Auburn’s Anna Foster led the Tiger’s team-scoring on the opening day of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate with the sophomore signing for a one-over par round of 72 on Monday.

Foster’s birdie on the par-3 13th was probably the highlight of a fine round, a raking putt that had a look into the hole before deciding to drop. It was one of three birdies for the Elm Park star on the day who sits tied-12th on the individual leaderboard.

Auburn is in 12th place as a team after shooting 14-over for the day. No team in the 17-team field finished under par in the opening round at Long Cove Club (Par 71, 6281 yards).

Only Furman’s Anna Morgan managed to break 70 on a tough opening day, leaving Foster just three back of the lead heading into Tuesday’s second round.

Wake Forest’s Lauren Walsh was two shots further back at three-over after trading four bogeys with just one birdie. The Castlewarden talent sits in a share of 37th but won’t be too concerned given she remains just five back of the lead.

The Deacs sit tied for fourth place after the first 18 holes.
