Stuart Grehan was the standout performer at the latest TaylorMade Winter Series outing at Portmarnock Links, the Tullamore talent topping the Nett prize with an impressive two-under par round of 69 on a tricky day on Dublin’s coast.
55 players took their chance on Tuesday with Grehan setting the bar, going out in one-under par with just the one birdie on the eighth hole before adding two more on the back nine at 14 and 15 with another dropped shot coming at the par-3 17th.
Grehan was the only man to break 70 on the day, take the Nett by three shots from SQ Golf’s Steven Quinlan and Newlands’ amateur Dermot Usher.
In the Gross, Grange’s Michael McDermott took the spoils with an even par 71. Out in two-over par after a disastrous start with bogeys on the first and second, McDermott managed to birdie the sixth before a bogey on the ninth.
His class shone through on the homeward stretch, however, with a bogey-free two-under back nine with birdies on the 13th and 15th holes, edging out home player AJ McCabe with the better back nine.
Please note that there will be no Winter Series on the 22nd but it will restart on the 1st of March for the five Tuesdays through the month.
