In what has to be a rare first, the final round of the 2021 Northern Trust will be played on Monday – 23rd August.

There will now be no play on Sunday due to the prediction that tropical storm Henri is set to strike the New Jersey & New York City region.

It means no play on Sunday for all 75 players who made the second round cut.

PGA Tour’s statement on the tropical storms at Northern Trust 2021

“Based on the projected path of Tropical Storm Henri and the Tropical Storm Warning that has been issued by the National Hurricane Centre for the area where The Northern Trust is located, there will be no play on Sunday, August 22nd. Round 4 will be played on Monday, August 23rd. Tee times and groupings for Round 4 will be published on Sunday afternoon, with the play on Monday slated to begin no earlier than 7:30 a.m.”

Aussie Cameron Smith who went within one putt of shooting a round of 59 before holing out for a 60 and grab the third round clubhouse lead on 16-under par, remarked:
“It’s all a bit weird for me and while some of the older members may have experienced something similar, it’s all new to me
“So, to have a complete day off in the middle of a tournament is a bit random so I’ll probably spend a couple of hours in the gym and just keep loose”.
