Ireland’s Eoin Leonard fired a superb six-under par round of 66 to move just one shot off the lead ahead of the final round of the EuroPro Tour’s Cubefunder Championship at Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa.

The Wentworth attached professional produced a stunning scorecard on Thursday, highlighted by an eagle, five birdies and just a solitary dropped shot. He sits in a tie for fifth overnight at nine-under, one shot behind a four-way tie for the top.

Also through to the final day was Ballymena’s Dermot McElroy who added a 71 to his opening 67 to sit in a tie for 15th at six-under, just four back. The 36-hole cut fell at two-under par with Stuart Grehan (-1) and Ronan Mullarney (Even) just missing out.

At the top, Mitch Waite is eyeing back-to-back titles on the PGA EuroPro Tour holding a share of the lead with Sam Locke, Jeff Wright, and Josh Hilleard going into the final day in Luton.

Waite signed for a second day 65 (-7) to move in position going out for 30 for the tied best front nine of the day. Locke carded a 66 (-6) to go with an earlier 68 on day one. The six under round today included three birdies and an eagle to go four under on the front nine after an early bogey. Wright meanwhile was in the 65 club like Waite, the Scotsman starting his back nine with two birdies and finishing with the same. Last night’s clubhouse leader Hilleard is keeping tow after a three under 69 that included recovering from a double-bogey at 10.

Tom Sloman moved one shy of the lead with an eight under par second round. The Trinifold Sports golfer went out for 30 on a front nine that began with a bogey but bounced back with spurts of three and four birdies on the bounce with the only par coming at 5.

Wentworth Golf Club’s Eoin Leonard will also start the final round one shy of the lead. The Irishman eagling the par 5, second hole at Luton Hoo whilst Dan Brown (Romanby Golf Club/Golfing4Life) is in the mix for the title once again after a strong moving day. Brown moving from two under to nine.

Overnight Jamie Rutherford (Knebworth Golf Club) and Sam Crowther will sit two strokes off the lead. Rutherford penned a 66 that included six birdies on the back nine whilst Crowther recovered from multiple bogies.

There was a 59 watch on twice during the day for Nick Marsh (Huddersfield Golf Club) and James Frazer (Machynys Peninsula). Marsh sits three back off the lead after a round of 65 which had start by a back nine of 29*. Frazer meanwhile had the round of the day with a 62 (-10) including seven birdies and two eagles. They’re joined at tied 10th with Leon Fricker (Yelverton Golf Club) and Jack Davidson (The Caversham).
