Vitor Lopes retained a narrow lead as play in the second round of the Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos was suspended for a second time on Friday afternoon.

The 24 year old Portuguese, who is aiming to claim his maiden European Tour title on home soil,  held a two-shot overnight lead, but dropped a shot on the second hole at Royal Óbidos Spa and Golf Resort to sit at six under par through three holes when play was suspended at 4.40 pm due to high winds.

South African Garrick Higgo is a shot further back at five under par through six holes, birdieing the sixth to join Carlos Pigem in a tie for second, with the Spaniard yet to tee off following a four hour suspension earlier in the day due to the threat of lightning.

Only 27 groups teed off in the second round due to the lengthy weather delays in the event that is dual ranked with the European Challenge Tour.

Gavin Moynihan (+2), Niall Kearney (+3) and Paul Dunne (+4) all are yet to get their second rounds underway in Portugal.

The second round will resume at 8.15 am on Saturday morning.
