Leona Maguire improved her scoring average and also her position on the leaderboard on day three of the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club.

After opening with two rounds of 72 (+1) to sit inside the top-40 Maguire returned a third round of level par 71 which included four birdies and four bogeys, including a bogey on the 2nd hole for the third straight day.

Tough scoring conditions means only fourteen players are under par for the tournament and as a return for her third round efforts Maguire moves up to T24 on the leaderboard on a two-over par total, nine shots off the pace being set by Spain’s Azahara Munoz.

Solheim Cup star Munoz heads to the final day with a one stroke advantage over two-time Major winning American Stacy Lewis courtesy of a two-under par third round which included birdies on the 15th and 18th to leave her on a seven-under par total.

Lewis, who had been joint leader at the start of the day returned a 71 (-1) and holds a one stroke lead over third placed Jennifer Song with Lydia Ko, who carded the low round of the day with a 67 and Cheyenne Knight lurking on four-under par.
