Killeen Castle staged the first of their 2019/20 Nicklaus Winter Series on Friday in calm but damp conditions on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in Co. Meath.

Local knowledge came to the fore with Killeen Castle member, Cormac Ryan claiming the spoils with his 4-under par 68. Going out in 32 (-4) the local scratch player carded birdies on holes 4, 6, 7 and the difficult 9th before falling back to -3 with a bogey on the tricky 11th.

A steady run of pars followed on holes 12 through 14 before another birdie on the par five 15th. A trio of pars to finish was enough to get Ryan into the clubhouse leading early, setting an imposing target with his strong 68.

Claiming the gross prize was the Carlow Golf Club based professional Tara Delaney who is also no stranger to Killeen Castle having played in a number of Ladies Irish Opens around the Co. Meath venue.

Tara carded a one-over par 73 including birdies on the 3rd and 5th and bogeys on holes 2, 8 and 9 before bouncing back with another birdie on hole 10. A bogey on the signature par five 12th hole was Tara’s only further budge from regulation pars on the way home to sign for a solid 73.
