Horses for courses. Colm Moriarty clearly loves it around Castlewarden. The Glasson professional fired a bogey-free seven-under par 65 to win the Aviva sponsored event on Sunday.

“I have played very well there over the last few years. It is a course that seems to suit my eye for whatever reason,” said Colm.

“I can’t put my finger on why that is the case. It is a tight course, you have to plot your way around. You have to be on fairways to get close to the pin. It seems to bring out the best in me, it’s a lovely club, a nice place to visit.

“I didn’t have a brilliant start. I was only one under after seven holes then I birdied eight and nine and 10 and 12 to get to five under all of a sudden. I chipped in on 16 to get to six and birdied 18 to shoot seven.

“I just seem to make plenty of birdies around there and limit the mistakes.”

This was Colm’s fifth victory at Castlewarden and continues a run of recent good form. Full of confidence, he’s bagged four wins in quick succession on the PGA in Ireland circuit.

“I am probably just trying to trust myself a little bit more,” he added. “I’m just trying to trust myself and not be fiddling around with my game so much.

“If you get a bit of momentum, that’s the way things seem to go in this game.”
