Irish Golfer Magazine is delighted to announce a new partnership with Clubs to Hire’s Race to Monte Rei which challenges European golfers to cut their handicaps by 10 percent in order to qualify for the biennial event’s grand final at the Portugal gem.

Organised by European Tour player and Clubs to Hire Brand Ambassador David Howell and Clubs to Hire in conjunction with Monte Rei and media partners Irish Golfer and Golf News UK, golfers looking to qualify for the grand final in Monte Rei must reduce their handicap by 10 percent before the 31st September deadline to be in with a chance.

Former Ryder Cup star Howell is the one putting out a challenge. He is simply asking can you reduce your handicap by 10% this year?

Well if you think you can meet this challenge, the Race to MONTE REI has just launched with registration free and now open for the popular competition – which had more than 3,000 entries when it was last held at Quinta do Lago, Portugal– and is now open to any golfer who holds a WHS handicap.

This year’s final will take place at Portugal’s top golf course on the 26th November 2023 and anyone who enters and meets the required handicap reduction will be entered into the draw for one of the 12 places up for grabs.

The prize includes 18 holes at Monte Rei Golf Club, accommodation for one night at Monte Rei, complementary set of golf clubs from Clubs to Hire, gala dinner and prize-giving, as well as use of the practice range and complimentary buggies.

Clubs to Hire founder Tony Judge said: “Every year, golfers of all levels set themselves handicap targets for the golfing season. We are delighted that we can reward 12 dedicated golfers who achieve a 10 per cent reduction in their handicap with this fantastic trip to an amazing part of the world.

“And, while 10 per cent may sound relatively straightforward for the keen golfer, it’s a lot harder than it seems, with only 210 golfers out of 3,000 entries managing it last time! We are looking forward to seeing how many can do it this year and hopefully seeing them in the beautiful Eastern Algarve in November.”

Launched in 2010, Clubs to Hire will celebrate its 13th year in business and the company has grown from strength to strength. It now handles more than 300,000 annual visits to its website and more than 40,000 bookings for rental clubs at 17 locations worldwide, including popular golfing regions in Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Ireland, Dubai, South Africa and five countries across the Mediterranean.

Clubs are available for left or right-handed men or women and can either be waiting at the airport or delivered directly to the golfer’s hotel. Clients can also add balls, tees and hats to their order.
