Clandeboye’s Jessica Ross carded a one-under 73 in the final round of the Welsh Open Strokeplay to claim a share of fifth place at Prestatyn Golf Club.
Ross finished on eight-under-par, six shots shy of eventual winner Lorna McClymont.
Rossmore’s Kate Dwyer continued her weekend charge with a two-under 72 to share thirteenth place on two-under-par as she warmed up for the Irish Women’s Amateur Open.
Dwyer won the Woodbrook Scratch Cup at the venue for the championship in a fortnight’s time.
Ross carded five birdies and four bogeys in her final round. She was three-under for her round after four birdies in six holes either side of the turn but bogeys on 13 and 16 saw her unlikely charge fizzle out.
In the end, there was no stopping defending Irish Women’s Amateur Open champion McClymont who showed her class with a seven-under 67 to take the title on fourteen-under.
Knock’s Katie Poots will attest when the Scotswoman gets on a charge there is little to stop her. McClymont was flawless carding seven birdies in a bogey free round including four birdies in five holes on the back nine to storm two clear of countrywoman Jennifer Saxton who held the overnight lead.
Woburn’s Roisin Scanlon finished 25th on seven-over.
