Leona Maguire had a day to forget on day three at the Zimmer Biomet Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez.

Maguire, who was well positioned to make a charge on moving day, had her ambitions well and truly crushed with an uncharacteristic third round 79 which saw her drop down the leaderboard to T57.

It started poorly for her with two bogeys in her opening three holes but she pulled one back at the 7th before giving it right back with a double bogey on the 8th.  Unfortunately that wasn’t where the trouble stopped as another bogey on 10 was followed by back to back par 3 double bogeys on 15 and 17, leaving Maguire on +6 for the Championship.

At the head or proceedings there has been only one name atop the leaderboard and that trend continues through 54 holes, as Nuria Iturrios (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) will look for a wire-to-wire victory today in the final round.

“Of course, it is always a good thing to think about the win, but the only thing I know is it’s going to be hot and hard because a lot of players are playing so good,” said Iturrios, who carded a 2-under par 70 in round three featuring four birdies.

“I want to keep going the way I am, my mind calm and make a lot of putts. Long game is solid, but missed a lot of putts and I hope tomorrow I can make them.”

A two-time champion on the Ladies European Tour (LET) in 2019, Iturrios is searching for her first career victory on the Symetra Tour. She’ll begin the final push on Sunday at 9:01 a.m.
