Form is temporary, class is permanent….

Watch enough sport and you’re sure to hear it said, but as with all great clichés, the foundations are based on truth

It wasn’t the break-out season that either Leona or Lisa Maguire perhaps wanted or expected, but their first season on tour was a steep learning curve.

Having gone from the relative comfort of the ILGU ranks to Duke University, it was never going to be an easy transition to the ‘play for pay’ side of things but with support from their management company, Modest! Golf and also from their sponsors KPMG and Puma they are are primed to make a bigger impact on the professional circuit  in 2019.

The twins receive plenty of support from home also, particularly from the course where they grew up – Slieve Russell Hotel Golf & Country Club, and it was fantastic to see them announce that they will be representing the Cavan venue going forward.

Having joined the club when they were just ten years old the girls have an already long standing relationship with the resort and Leona commented; “We have had tremendous support from Slieve Russell Hotel Golf & Country Club throughout our amateur careers and very much look forward to representing this great club as we embark on our first full season as professional golfers.

“We are proud residents of County Cavan and we always look forward to coming home after being on our travels. Slieve Russell has great facilities, superb members and a first class environment for both Lisa and I to work hard on our games. We cannot thank the club enough for their continued support.”

Lisa went on to comment “We have had unwavering support from the local community in Cavan and Slieve Russell has continuously supported us throughout our whole careers. We love spending time at the club and we very much take pride in being associated with this incredible place as we play our golf across the world.”

Tony Walker General Manager of Slieve Russell went on to say; ‘We have been privileged to have Leona and Lisa as members of the Slieve Russell Golf Club throughout their golfing careers.

All of us have been very proud of their achievements to date and the management of the Slieve Russell  look forward to being  associated with and  supporting both Leona and Lisa as they continue in their professional careers.”

Slieve Russell Hotel Golf & Country Club in Cavan provides luxury 4 star hotel accommodation in a tranquil setting. Set in 300 acres, including 50 acres of lakes the resort is just 90 minutes from Dublin. The club and hotel boasts a championship golf course, a luxury spa, a state of the art conference centre and a floodlit driving range. For more information on the resort visit www.slieverussell.ie
