Irish stars relishing Mount Juliet homecoming

Pádraig Harrington, Shane Lowry and Séamus Power are excited to tee it up in front of the packed home crowds at Mount Juliet Estate for this week’s Horizon Irish Open. The home favourites will be backed by Irish golf fans in their thousands, with a sold-out weekend...

Michael McDermott came up trumps at the Mac Group PGA Pro-Am at Portmarnock Links as he took both the team and individual prizes!

In ideal scoring conditions the Grange GC professional held off David Higgins (Waterville Golf Links) and Joe Dillon (Headfort GC) to win on the fast running Dublin links.

With a shotgun start in operation, the 38-year-old started his round at the seventh and picked up three shots in his opening 12 holes at the eighth, tenth where he drained a 25-foot putt after finding the green with a sand wedge and the 13th.

McDermott added further birdies at the first and the par five fourth but dropped shots at the second and fourth to finish with a 68 (-3).

Brilliantly he also guided his amateur partners to success in the team event with 90 pts.
