Waterville’s David Higgins has continued his fine form of 2017 into the early part of this year and he captured the GolfBreaks.com Portuguese Pro-Am title in fine style at Quinta do Lago.

Higgins carded rounds of 70, 69 and 72 over the Quinta do Lago (South), Quinta do Lago (Laranjal) and Quinta do Lago (North) during the three day Pro-Am and took the €1050 first prize by a single shot from Andrew Raitt of St. Georges Golf Club.

Higgins’ 69 on day two was the difference in the end as it was the lowest round of the day by a couple of strokes and put him into a leading position heading to the final day from where he never looked back.

Higgins paid tribute to his brother and coach Brian (who also caddied for him during the tournament)  after the win, “I was delighted to win the 2018 Quinta do Lago 3 day pro-am today. Big thank you to my brother & coach, Brian Higgins. Our Winter work is showing results already and I’m looking forward to the busy season ahead.”

Colm Moriarty was the other Irish professional in the field and after a difficult 77 on day one he returned with a 71 and then a final day -5 round of 67 to take third place and €740.
