Stuart Grehan finished strongly to secure a top-10 finish at the Men’s European Nations Championship at Sotogrande.
Grehan fired back to back rounds of 68 to catapult himself through the field and secure a share of tenth place on four-under-par as he ended the week as best of the Irish interest.
The reigning Irish Amateur and Close champion did end the week eleven shots behind eventual winner Eliot Baker who completed an English double in the individual and the team leaderboard.
Baker won by three shots on 15-under-par while England romped to a fourteen-shot win on 31-under, ahead of France. Ireland finished fifth with strong weekend performances to climb to two-under-par.
Meanwhile, Caolan Rafferty closed with a 75 to end the week in a share of 25th place on five-over with Matthew McClean a shot further back after a 73. Teenager John Doyle who was the leading Irishman after day one will take a lot from his experience as he finished 35th on plus nine.
In the Women’s Euro Nations Cup, reigning Irish Close champion Anna Dawson claimed a share of 21st place as Havanna Torstensson won by three shots on six-under.
