The Irish government has earmarked almost €22 million in Budget 2027 to support the hosting of the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in County Limerick and preparations for UEFA Euro 2028. The allocation forms part of a broader €121 million current funding package for Sport Ireland, announced to bolster sports participation, player development, and major international events.
Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers outlined the funding in his budget speech, while Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O’Donovan and Minister of State for Sport Charlie McConalogue confirmed the details. The €22 million delivers on the government’s commitments toward these high-profile events, which officials say will generate lasting community legacies, drive economic growth, and boost sports participation across the island of Ireland.
“As Minister, I have made it a priority to secure the investment our culture, communications, media and sport sectors need to grow and thrive. This €1.298 billion allocation backs that ambition with practical support for artists, clubs, communities and the public services people rely on every day,” O’Donovan said.
“I have secured €848 million in current funding for 2027. This provides for a full year of the permanent Basic Income for the Arts scheme, increased funding for the Arts Council and Sport Ireland, support for the Ryder Cup 2027 and UEFA EURO 2028, and continued investment in the media sector.”
McConalogue added: “These events will leave a lasting legacy for communities, drive economic growth, and impact positively on sports participation across the island of Ireland.”
Last year the government set aside €9 million for Ryder Cup preparations; the new figure represents a substantial increase as the event approaches. Organisers and officials anticipate significant economic returns, building on the global exposure of an event broadcast to hundreds of millions of households.
