Jessica Ross would have been disappointed when she signed for her second round of 75 on Saturday afternoon but she will be pleased to see that she has been bumped back into the final group ahead of the final round of the Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship.
Ross, who led overnight at Royal Troon, was three-over for the day and is now one-over for the championship but that is good enough for second place although she trails Grace Bowen by five shots after a brilliant 69 by the Englishwoman.
Ross made the perfect start to her second round with an opening birdie but the second hole proved costly yet again as she carded a double bogey for the second straight day. The European Mid-Amateur champion did bounce back immediately with a birdie on the third but stumbled to the turn with bogeys on the 4th, 6th and 8th.
The Clandeboye woman was solid on the back nine however which has kept her hopes alive as a bogey on 14 was cancelled out by a birdie on the par-3 16th – a hole that has been kind to her so far this week.
Edmondstown’s Anna Abom is just outside the top-10 on ten-over after a 78 with Kate Lanigan a shot further back after a fine effort of 73.
Kayleigh Mulholland is on plus thirteen whole Aideen Walsh and Gemma McMeekin are inside the top-60.
