Lauren Walsh helped the Wake Forest women’s golf team into the final match of the NCAA Championship where the Deacs will face the USC Trojans today for the 2023 NCAA title.
Wake Forest entered the back nine of the semi-final tied or trailing in four of the five matches before turning on the heat. Once taking control of the match, the Deacs only trailed following four of the 41 holes that were completed on the back nine and were never more than one down.
Castlewarden’s Walsh was tied through 17 holes of her semi-final encounter before the Demon Deacons opened up an unassailable lead courtesy of victories for graduate Emilia Migliaccio, Senior Rachel Kuehn and Junior Mimi Rhodes.
Walsh had earlier tied her quarter-final match as Wake Forest ran out 3-1 victors over Florida State on Tuesday morning.
“Amazing, it was very long, but it was an amazing day,” said Head Coach Kim Lewellen.
“These young ladies, from the perseverance they had from the morning matches to the afternoon matches, overcoming some of the adversity and finishing it off with the wins that we did, to make it to the next day, it’s just an unbelievable feeling for myself, my team and for Wake Forest.”
