A damaging second round might have put paid to Paul Conroy’s hopes of a second collegiate win at the Tiger Inv by Jason Dufner.

Conroy posted a second round 76 to drop from a share of the lead to one-under and six off the pace heading into the final round.

The Enniscorthy man carded two birdies but six bogeys as he fell to a share of 21st place.

It looked like Conroy had picked up from where he left off with a birdie on the first, but that was followed by a tricky run of two bogeys in three holes.

The back nine was where the Wexford man began to struggle, dropping shots on ten, thirteen and sixteen.

Two shots further back is East of Ireland winner Alex Maguire who carded a two-under 70 despite a late double-bogey.

Maguire double bogeyed the par-3 8th which was his seventeenth hole of the day.

The Mornington native started brilliantly with three birdies in his first five holes and having dropped a shot at his tenth he responded with back-to-back birdies before letting two shots slip.

Tramore’s Jack Hearn is on three-over after a 74 which included two bogeys and sixteen pars.
