Royal Dublin’s Hugh Foley is making moves with news that the Walker Cup hopeful has signed a sponsorship deal with Uniphar.

The 25-year-old Dubliner lit up the amateur circuit in 2022 winning both the South of Ireland and North of Ireland titles – the first man to do so since Darren Clarke back in 1990.

Foley also went on to reach the finals of the AIG Irish Amateur Close before making international headlines as the runner up in the US Mid-Amateur Championship, after just narrowly losing out to fellow Irish amateur Matt McClean.

Foley rounded out a stellar year by being declared Men’s Amateur of the Year for 2022 and was duly rewarded by being named as one of the six Irish players within the nineteen-strong squad that are now vying for the final 10 places to represent Britain and Ireland in this year’s centenary Walker Cup against the USA to be held at St Andrews in September.

With another exciting year ahead and currently ranked 142 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Foley has indicated he may consider turning professional at the end of 2023.

Announcing today’s sponsorship deal, the CEO of Uniphar plc , Ger Rabbette said the Uniphar was delighted to be putting their support behind Hugh Foley:

“Hugh is a hugely talented golfer and a wonderful exponent of the game. He’s come out of a terrific year in 2022 winning a rare double on the Irish amateur circuit by taking both the North and South of Ireland titles, while also finishing convincingly in both the US Mid-Amateur and AIG Irish Amateur Close. Hugh is a great ambassador for the game, and I have no doubt he has a very exciting career ahead on the global stage. Uniphar is delighted to support Hugh as he enters the next exciting phase of his golf career, and we wish him every success in 2023 and beyond”.”

Foley said he was extremely grateful for the new round of support coming from Uniphar plc:

“I am delighted to be partnering with Uniphar plc and it’s a great declaration of support as I seek to progress my career and coming, as it does, on the cusp of such an exciting year of competitions ahead. I have been very fortunate to date with the opportunities presented to me within the game and I am particularly delighted with how things turned out in 2022.

“I am hoping 2023 will hold open some more great prospects and I am really eager for what’s coming next. It is great to start the year with the backing of Uniphar and its CEO, Ger Rabbette, and together we are hoping for great things out of the year ahead.”
