Lauren Walsh has taken over as the leading Irishwoman at the halfway stage of the Italian International Ladies’ Amateur Championship at Is Molas Golf Club in Italy.

The Kildare player returned a wonderful even-par 72 to move into sixth place overall at three-over par and just seven shots off the lead.

Castlewarden’s Walsh leapfrogged Lurgan teenager, Annabel Wilson who dropped back to a share of 12th spot after returning a 77 this afternoon.

Wilson began the tournament with an even-par score of her own and remains not without hope at five-over par heading into moving day.

The third member of Ireland’s travelling trio, Paula Grant, enjoyed a much better second day than she did a first.

The Lisburn golfer, who juggles locum work and elite amateur golf, bounced back from an opening day 82 with a two-over 74 to move inside the top-50 at plus 12.

There will be a cut made after 54-holes with the final round to be played on Saturday, March 23.

England’s Lily May Humphreys leads the tournament at the halfway stage at four-under par.

ILGU High Performance Manager David Kearney has travelled with the three Irish High Performance panellists for the duration of the event.
