The Portuguese International Ladies Amateur Championship, the first European international event of the year, begins at Montado Golf Resort today with five Irish players in the field.

The 72 hole stroke play championship runs from January 30 to February 2 with Paula Grant (Lisburn), who began her year at the South American Amateur Championship in Chile with a top 15 finish, aiming to improve upon that result this week.

Shannon Burke (Ballinrobe), played alongside Grant at the Home Internationals in Ballybunion last August and returns to Portugal this year having not played in 2018 due to University commitments.

Ciara Casey (Hermitage), Aine Donegan (Woodstock) and Elisa Corcoran (Grange) join Grant and Burke to put their winter practice to the test on a competition stage.
