One of the most anticipated amateur golf tournaments for 2019 is here with the launch of the International King’s Cup and organisers are delighted that for the very first time Team Ireland will travel to the United States to take on the USA.

The International Kings Cup, a three-day 54-hole amateur match play pairs tournament structured like the Ryder Cup, was formed in 2016 and is played in honour of golf’s greatest ambassador Mr Arnold Palmer. It’s a pairs event like no other and is unique in that there are four flights of handicap and within each flight two teams will qualify under two age brackets 18+ and Seniors 55+

The provincial qualifiers are now available to book (FORMAT: Fourball Betterball) and the events take place at the following locations;

Leinster Qualifier              ROGANSTOWN                                         Friday 8th March
Connaught Qualifier        WESTPORT GOLF CLUB                         Saturday 23rd March
Ulster Qualifier                 CASTLEROCK GOLF CLUB                    Wednesday 27th March
Munster Qualifier             ENNIS GOLF CLUB                                   Saturday 30th March

NATIONAL QUALIFIER: MALONE GOLF CLUB – THURSDAY 4TH APRIL

The three previous Cups have been won by Team Ireland in Northern Ireland and with the 2019 Cup to be played in the USA for the first time the organisers are now looking to recruit Team Ireland for this unique 16 man team event.

The event is open to any two-person team with a verifiable GUI Handicap and is unique as each flight has an Open Age Category and a Senior Category within each flight and there are 4 Flights. So whether you are a scratch golfer or a 20 handicap golfer you have equal opportunity to qualify to represent Team Ireland. Pairs teams must not exceed more than a difference of 8 between each of their handicaps.

Players must have a current passport as Team Ireland will be flying to Orlando on Sunday 19th May and be returning to Ireland Saturday 25th May. Uniforms will be supplied by Glenmuir for all tournament days of play and Team Ireland will stay at the Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge!

Event partner Leanne Rice from Tourism NI Golf commented; “Golf Tourism is worth £40m to the Northern Ireland economy with North American golf visitors being the most lucrative visitors spending several times more than our average visitor.  Partnering with International tournaments like the International Kings Cup is a great avenue for us to promote our golf product in North America and support further growth in this sector.”

And Lynn Mc Cool, European Director of Operations of International Kings Cup is looking forward to hosting the event; “I’m delighted to be in a position to bring Team Ireland to the USA this year. I’m also excited about the future of this event as we will start to introduce new countries and when the event returns to Northern Ireland in 2020 I’m hoping Team Ireland will still be defending their title!”

“It will be a tremendous experience for both teams to stay and play at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge. Mr Arnold Palmer did so much for golf and we are very proud to take this event across Ireland and the USA and play it in his honour. I encourage every level of golfer to find a partner and enter into one of the qualifiers as this will be an ultimate golf experience. The format Fourball Betterball Nett.  To have an Open age 18 +  and a seniors 55+  and four flights means there is a chance for everyone who has a GUI Handicap to qualify. It’s fantastic and we anticipate every qualifier to have a full field so we encourage golfers to book early.”

“For the very first time the main event will also be televised to 6 million homes in the United States and 11 million homes in the UK through Randy Tallinger’s Show”  This is unbelievable progress in just four years and very soon we will announce the 2020 venue which will be in Northern Ireland but for now, we must recruit Team Ireland.”
