After a hugely successful staging of the national club competition at Malone Golf Club last year, the Royal County awaits this year’s contenders.
The AIG Ladies Cups and Shields National Finals return again to Knightsbrook Hotel and Golf Resort from today until Saturday..
After months of interprovincial duels, hours upon hours spent on the practice range and hundreds upon thousands of balls battered in its honour, preparation comes down to next week’s National Finals as the cream of club golf descends upon County Meath.
For the fourth consecutive year, AIG are title sponsors of the Ladies Cups and Shields and General Manager Declan O’Rourke is delighted to be involved, “When AIG extended its existing relationship with the ILGU in 2015 by announcing a four year sponsorship of the Ladies Cups and Shields, it reinforced AIG’s already existing commitment to supporting ladies amateur golf in Ireland.
“After a very successful finals at Malone last year, we look forward to another four days of exciting competition at the highest club level of golf at Knightsbrook.”
Indeed those hoping to get their hands on a precious pennant will need to bring their best stuff to the Trim resort in order to attain one. However, even those who fall short should do their best to enjoy the experience because there’s more to competing at such an illustrious event than winning.
Friendships that transcend titles will be formed off the back of fierce rivalry and competition and those fresh bonds will prove more rewarding in the long-run; not that team managers and club captains will agree to such notions pre-tournament!
Whatever happens though, let’s hope those taking part can play to their full potential and as ever, may the best golf win.
